Message from the Principal
Thank you for your interest in our school.
I have seen quite a few changes since I became Principal of Bethnal Green Academy. The school today is very different from the one I first walked into in 2007. Back then it was a school with poor standards and an even poorer reputation.
It is a very different place now.
Further to our Ofsted Inspection on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th December 2012, I am delighted to inform you that Bethnal Green Academy was judged ‘Outstanding’ in all categories.
The four Ofsted categories covering ‘Achievement of pupils’, ‘Quality of teaching’, ‘Behaviour and safety of pupils’ and ‘Leadership and management’ all received the highest judgement – ‘Outstanding’.
The inspection report comments that “students’ achievement in Key Stage 3 and 4 is remarkable”. It further states that “the standards they reach overall at the end of Year 11 are higher than those of other students in the country even though the majority start at the Academy with attainment that is below the national average”.
To be acknowledged as ‘Outstanding’ in all categories is an immense honour and places Bethnal Green Academy amongst the very best academies and schools in the country. The credit for this goes to our governors, staff and to our students and their families. We're proud to be an ‘Outstanding’ Academy that serves one of the most deprived areas in the country and we all share the belief that our children have the right to an outstanding education. It's always been our goal to work with our local community and we know that background, place of birth or post code need never be an obstacle in fulfilling your dreams and aspirations.

Winter Fest at Bethnal Green Academy
Winter Fest, a festival of culture, arts and learning is underway at Bethnal Green Academy. During December there are a range of events and activities designed to give our students opportunities to have fun, develop new skills and be creative. Throughout WinterFest we will be raising money for the Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Appeal.
Academy Status Update
We’re delighted to tell you that Bethnal Green Academy has received confirmation from the Department for Education that we are now an ‘approved sponsor.’
This means that we can work with more schools and organisations than ever before. By becoming a Multi Academy Trust, BGA and other schools can form closer links, sharing resources and outstanding practice leading to even better provision and outcomes for our young people.
Many thanks to our colleagues and partner schools who have worked with us recently on various projects and activities or simply visited to share strategies for success...
